Mission Overview

This is an individual contributor role. As an Associate Product Designer, you will focus on honing your design skills while learning about our products and design methodologies from experienced colleagues.

Our goal is to help you grow as a designer, providing mentorship and opportunities to contribute meaningfully from the start.

This role is hybrid, based in our New York City headquarters, and reports to the Product Design Director.

Responsibilities

Collect and incorporate feedback from team members.

Develop familiarity with the current state of a system or user experience.

Support workstreams by contributing design components that help achieve team and company goals.

Collaborate with engineers and product teams to ensure design quality and consistency of shipped flows and interactions.

Participate in design rituals and practices across the team.

Keep mentors and teammates updated transparently on progress and challenges.

Demonstrate a strong commitment to journalistic independence and to our mission of seeking truth and helping people understand the world.

Basic Qualifications

A portfolio showcasing your design process and finished design work

At least one year of experience designing digital web or app products

Recent experience with interactive products or tools

Proficiency with design tools such as Figma

Adaptability to changing priorities and ability to refine work based on feedback

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with visual design principles, type hierarchy, layout, and systems

Proficiency in prototyping tools such as Figma, Play, or Cursor

Ability to present design decisions and show impact

Experience conducting or working with user research and synthesis

Salary Range

$80,000 — $93,000 USD annually
