Product Designer

Tailscale

Tailscale builds secure networking software that makes it simple to connect people and their devices anywhere in the world. Teams of all sizes—from hobby projects to global enterprises—use Tailscale to protect internal tools, share access effortlessly, and create private networks that “just work.” Founded in 2019, fully distributed, and backed by leading investors, the company is focused on rebuilding the Internet in a way that feels easy, safe, and sensible again.

Role Overview

Tailscale is looking for a Product Designer who can move comfortably across growth, onboarding, activation, and in-product UX. You’ll act as a design generalist, owning projects from concept through delivery, working closely with engineers, PMs, data partners, and a team of experienced designers. You’ll need a strong grasp of self-serve SaaS workflows, the ability to unpack complex technical problems, and a motivation to improve the experience for a wide variety of customers.

What You’ll Do

You’ll turn complex problems into simple, thoughtful UIs and own the end-to-end design process: discovery, ideation, journey mapping, prototypes, UI design, and component creation. You’ll partner with cross-functional teams to define problems, explore solutions, and experiment to measure impact. You’ll translate product analytics, research, and behavioral insights into clear direction. You’ll also help maintain the standard of craft across the design system, and work directly with engineering during implementation and design QA.

What You’ll Bring

You have 7+ years of product design experience with a focus on growth, onboarding, or activation workflows. Your portfolio shows strong contributions to complex B2B SaaS products. You’re able to create clarity in ambiguous spaces and align teams around a shared direction. You communicate clearly, collaborate well with engineers, PMs, and data teams, and you’re comfortable iterating quickly. You care about accessibility, inclusivity, and thoughtful design. You work well independently and are comfortable giving and receiving feedback.

Nice to Have

You bring a data-informed approach to design, with experience in A/B testing, conversion thinking, and product analytics.

Compensation & Benefits

Canada salary range: $195,640–$245,220 CAD (includes equity and comprehensive benefits). Tailscale offers a fully remote environment, flexible working, generous PTO, professional development support, parental leave, and travel opportunities for meetups and off-sites. Team members receive a build-your-own workstation budget, health benefits with no waiting period, and access to coworking options if desired.
