Senior Product Designer
Discord
Discord is used by over 200 million people every month for many different reasons. But there’s one thing that nearly everyone does on our platform: play video games. Over 90% of our users play games, spending a combined 1.5 billion hours playing thousands of unique titles on Discord each month.
Discord plays a uniquely important role in the future of gaming. We’re focused on making it easier and more fun for people to talk and hang out before, during, and after playing games.
Our Mission
On the Developer Platform Team, our mission is to help game studios succeed by creating meaningful experiences for players. For game studios, we build smart integrations and intuitive tools that make it easy for developers, community managers, and marketers to connect with players and bring the best of Discord into their games. For players, we enhance on-platform experiences that deepen their connection to the games they love—and make it easier to build lasting friendships through play.
The Role
While this role will eventually support experiences for both audiences, your initial focus will be on the game studio experience.
We’re looking for a designer who’s excited to shape the future of our tools and offerings for developers, community managers, and marketers.
You’ll design cohesive, empowering, and delightful experiences across every touchpoint studios have with Discord—from onboarding and documentation to dashboards, self-serve portals, Official Game Communities, and beyond.
As a product designer, you’ll work across the full product development cycle—from early exploration through to launch and iteration.
You’ll apply a thoughtful blend of user empathy, systems thinking, and visual craft to solve meaningful problems for businesses and players alike.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll embed within a product squad and partner with engineers, product managers, researchers, and data scientists to oversee the user experience from concept to launch—and continue improving it after release.
You’ll create wireframes, mockups, prototypes, and work to implement your designs to pixel perfection. You’ll quality check your work as it’s built, making sure it reflects your vision.
You’ll set a high bar for craft, execution, and production quality within your team and proactively seek opportunities to improve what’s already live.
You’ll influence your team’s roadmap through a deep understanding of the product space. You’ll act as a thought partner with cross-functional leads in defining the product strategy.
You’ll present your designs to your team and the broader organisation to build alignment and clarity.
You’ll strengthen the design system by identifying gaps, contributing new patterns, and improving existing ones.
You’ll play an active role in the design org’s culture—sharing work, giving feedback, and contributing to team-wide discussions and critiques.
What You Should Have
You have at least five years of experience leading design across end-to-end consumer products on web, mobile, desktop, or console platforms.
You’ve been the design lead for a squad or major initiative. You’re confident making design decisions and communicating your rationale clearly across teams.
You care deeply about creating great developer experiences and know what quality looks like in that space.
You’re highly experienced with Figma and confident using prototyping tools like Protopie, Framer, or Origami.
You bring strong product thinking and can translate complex business requirements into intuitive, easy-to-use designs.
You have mastery of design craft—from typography and layout to interaction and visual polish. Pixel-perfect is your standard.
You’re a confident communicator and collaborator. You’re proactive in shaping strategy and happy presenting your work to stakeholders.
You use data and research to guide your decisions. You’re comfortable iterating and testing until you find what works.
You’ve contributed to design systems before and know how to scale patterns in complex or multi-user environments.
Bonus
Candidates must live in, or be willing to relocate to, the San Francisco Bay Area. This includes Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma counties.
