Senior Product Designer

Overview

As a Senior Product Designer on the GitHub Copilot team, you’ll create innovative AI-powered developer experiences and work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact features. You’ll be at the forefront of shaping how developers build software using emerging technologies like AI and large language models.

This role involves building solutions that improve the developer experience across web, IDEs, terminals, and mobile. You’ll work alongside other designers, product managers, and engineers to design interactive, high-quality developer tools.

Responsibilities

Drive product direction by shaping solutions to complex problems while balancing user needs, technical constraints, and business priorities.

Prototype and explore AI-powered ideas, using model capabilities, user behavior, and design insight to guide direction.

Design accessible experiences that work across multiple platforms including web, IDEs, terminals, and mobile.

Help the team move through ambiguity by prioritising progress over perfection.

Collaborate with engineers, PMs, and researchers to quickly iterate and deliver quality features.

Communicate design rationale and storytelling clearly to align teams.

Contribute to design systems, applying reusable patterns and structures.

Bring clarity to complex challenges by structuring problems and identifying actionable paths forward.

Required Qualifications

Seven or more years of experience in product or service design, or a relevant degree with equivalent experience.

Experience working as a Product Designer with engineers, product managers, and other designers.

Experience shipping products or features end-to-end and presenting work to varied audiences.

Experience designing for multiple platforms and applying user research methods and UX principles.

Preferred Qualifications

Portfolio demonstrating hands-on product design work.

Experience designing for large language models and AI.

Experience designing for developer tools.

Experience contributing to or using a design system.
