With offices in Denver, San Francisco, and New York, we support over 400,000 businesses nationwide.
Our mission is to create a world where work empowers a better life — and that starts inside Gusto. We’re focused on building an inclusive, collaborative workplace, both in-person and remote.
About Design at Gusto
We’re a cross-functional team of over 70 creatives focused on design, research, writing, ops, and front-end development.
We partner closely with product, engineering, data, and marketing to craft experiences that make a real difference.
The team cares deeply about inclusive, thoughtful design — and we believe great design can make hard things delightful.
The Role
As a Staff Product Designer, you’ll lead design efforts for our contractor tools — helping mature a high-priority area of the platform.
You’ll shape major customer workflows and design foundational changes.
You’ll work across strategy, planning, feature development, and iteration — from idea to ship.
About the Team
The Contractors team empowers small and medium businesses to hire, manage, and pay domestic and international contractors.
We also help contractors manage their client work and grow successful businesses.
Contract work is growing fast, and our tools are helping shape its future.
What You’ll Do
Define a long-term UX vision for contractor experiences and how they align with Gusto’s broader product.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams — including research, legal, compliance, and customer support — to deeply understand customer pain points.
Design and ship both new and iterative product experiences that deliver value.
Champion Gusto’s design systems and help evolve them through your team’s work.
Contribute to the design culture by sharing knowledge and mentoring peers.
What We’re Looking For

Comfort with complexity — especially in maturing existing products.
A user-first mindset and a high quality bar, with experience shipping iteratively.
Confident working with executives and contributing to product and business strategy.
Strong grasp of accessibility and platform standards.
Experience designing for legal, compliance, or regulated industries is a plus.
Salary
$146,000–$183,000/year in most US locations.
