Design System Engineer

loveholidays

loveholidays is on a mission to open the world to everyone, giving customers unlimited choice, unmatched ease, and unmissable value for their next getaway. As the technology team behind one of the UK's leading travel platforms, they process trillions of daily holiday offers and serve thousands of requests per second — and they're investing heavily in their design system to support ambitious growth across Europe.

About the Role

As Design System Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in elevating product quality and consistency across loveholidays' customer-facing experience. Working at the intersection of design craft, frontend engineering, and developer experience, you'll own the evolution of the design system — bridging design intent and frontend implementation. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract and a rare opportunity to shape the visual and interactive foundation of a product used by millions of travellers.

What You'll Do

  • Co-lead the evolution and governance of the design system; build and maintain a robust component library in React/TypeScript with clear adoption standards across product teams.

  • Help define how the design system supports AI-generated frontend code (Claude Code, Cursor and similar tooling), enabling innovation and consistency at scale.

  • Bridge design and engineering — translate design decisions into reusable, production-ready components and review design system features before release.

  • Improve developer experience by making the system intuitive, well-documented, and a genuine accelerant for engineering teams.

  • Collaborate with design leadership, product managers, and engineering to ensure the system reflects evolving product priorities.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience building and evolving multi-platform design systems (Web, iOS, Android), with expertise in React, TypeScript, and modern CSS.

  • A systems thinker who understands versioning, governance, and adoption strategies, with strong design sensibility.

  • Experience using usage analytics, adoption metrics, and research to guide design system decisions.

  • Deep commitment to web performance and accessibility as core requirements, not nice-to-haves.

  • Strong communicator, equally comfortable pairing with a designer on a spec or reviewing an engineer's PR.

What We Offer

  • 5% company pension contributions and 25 days holiday per annum (plus 8 public holidays).

  • Individualised training budget to level up your skills on the job.

  • Discounted holidays for you, your family, and friends.

  • Cycle to work scheme, season ticket loan, and eye care vouchers.
